Even Well Recognized Men of Peace View Firearms as a Useful Defensive Tool

After reading the anti gun diatribes that are promoted daily by the mainstream media and supported by many in the current administration, I was shocked to learn that two of the most well known promoters of nonviolence in the last century, as well as a very influential man of the first century that billions of people world wide still follow today, had specifically gone on record with comments that illustrate they were not anti-gun, or against defending ones self with a weapon. Gandhi wrote the excerpt below in his book entitled, An Autobiography (page 446 at bottom of page):

Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest.

Below is a quote found in the Seattle Times, May 15, 2001, where the Dalai Lama stated the following:

If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun. Not at the head, where a fatal wound might result. But at some other body part, such as a leg.

Now let's take a look below at two passages that were spoken by Jesus, the founder of Christianity to the apostles in the first century. It should be noted that Jesus was known as "the prince of peace":

Luke 22
36 And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.

38 They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough."

Correct me if I am wrong, but not only did Jesus tell them to buy a sword, which would be the modern day equivalent of a firearm, but he also agreed that having a backup was okay. So much for the concept of being a defenseless doormat that is often taught by those in modern religion.
