Airport body scanner trials return high rate of errors
quote:
BETWEEN 20 and 40 per cent of the 23,500 scans conducted during trials of the controversial body scanner technology in Sydney and Melbourne airports gave a potential false alarm...
...The Australian tests are an improvement on German trials, in which an alarm was set off in seven out of 10 cases.
When screeners get this many false alarms consistently, over time they start ignoring them as being false when they actually could be real. They should just eliminate this junk and go to profiling.

TSA Source: Armed Agent Slips Past DFW Body Scanner
quote:
An undercover TSA agent was able to get through security at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport with a handgun during testing of the enhanced-imaging body scanners, according to a high-ranking, inside source at the Transportation Security Administration.
The source said the undercover agent carried a pistol in her undergarments when she put the body scanners to the test. The officer successfully made it through the airport's body scanners every time she tried, the source said.

Stimulus to bring body scanners to airports
quote:
The U.S. government is using $25 million in stimulus money to buy and install full body scanners in airports this year, in an effort to ramp up security and create jobs. The Transportation Security Administration is using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to purchase 150 of the full body scanners, according to TSA spokeswoman Sarah Horowitz.
Gun Shy has a better idea. Why not use that stimulus money to dismantle the TSA and build a real security division?
