America's Killing Fields...

...I am referring of course to gun free zones. Here is the latest:

Video: UAH shooting leaves three dead, three wounded at Shelby Center

I am amazed these days as certain lawmakers, organizations, and news casters babble on about the evil of firearms as being the root of the problem in our society today as they spout their "If we could just eliminate all of the guns we would all be safe!" rhetoric. The truth of the matter being, if someone at the university in Alabama had been armed, the perpetrator may have been silenced before they even got rolling, and if we could succeed in getting all of the level headed law abiding Americans qualified with a firearm, the criminal herd would probably get thinned out rather quickly, and crime would go down. It is no secret that violent criminals love an unarmed helpless victim. Now for my Florida readers let’s consider this for a moment. A few years back, someone having a bad day for whatever reason, walked into the Wendy’s in Palm Beach Florida with a pistol and proceeded to wreak havoc while taking innocent lives for no apparent reason. The first fatality was a man, a father of five who was standing at the counter with his back to the assailant picking up the toy that came with his child's meal. The cowardly perpetrator proceeded to shoot him in the back. He then went on to wound five others in the restaurant. The police recovered twenty shell casings and eight projectiles, and it was reported that the weapon he was using had the capability of firing seventeen rounds. (the weapon was of the double column magazine design) Police also recovered an additional fourteen live rounds at the scene. It was reported that there was some down time while the perpetrator was reloading, but no one attempted to disarm him. The shooter then continued his spree of insanity while everyone else cowered and hid until he turned the weapon on himself. In the end, there was one dead and five wounded. The media was quick to report that the someone kicked the weapon away from the assailant after he had taken his own life, and was lying lifeless on the restaurant floor, but according to other press reports, it appears that in actuality the act that saved many lives was the fact that the shooter had acquired some mismatched ammo that would not operate in his firearm, which ended up limiting the number of rounds that he could fire at his victims. This is what really interrupted his original vision of much greater carnage. Again, not one person attempted to rush him during the shooting melee. If only one bystander had been armed and qualified with their weapon at the Wendy's shootings, the perpetrator's fantasized blaze of glory would have ended abruptly, and the story would've had a much happier ending. As evidenced by the twenty rounds discharged by the assailant with only six people being hit, it was obvious that the perpetrator was not qualified to handle the firearm that he used, which in this case, I guess we should all be thankful. In all honesty, he would have done greater damage more effectively if he had just driven his car through the front window of the crowded restaurant at 30 mph. The same is true with the assailant from the shootings at the Northern Illinois University lecture hall. The shooter had three handguns and a shotgun. He discharged a total of fifty four rounds from the four weapons, and in the end there were six dead including himself, and sixteen wounded. This also applies to the Virginia Tech rampage, where the shooter fired one hundred seventy rounds which resulted in thirty three dead and fifteen wounded. I am in no way trying to trivialize the damage that these cowards did succeed in doing, because even the loss of one innocent life is far too many from my perspective.

Do the lawmakers and anti gun groups really believe if they outlaw firearms, that the killing will stop? If killing is such a new phenomena recently propagated by the advent of firearms, then why were we told in the sixth commandment written thousands of years ago not to do it? Man has been killing since the invention of stone knives back in ancient days. Before that they probably smashed each other in the head with rocks. Bad intention is bad intention period, and those types of people will use whatever means available to perpetrate their evil, senseless, cowardly deeds. I think that it is time that we all quit listening to the spin doctors, and the talking heads on the evening news who parrot the "guns are evil" rhetoric, and face the reality of this front and center…Guns don't kill people, bad intent and an evil heart are the real culprits.

I will leave you with this memorable quote found on the net:

It seems that most of the "mass shootings" we have witnessed in the United States take place within gun free zones. I know people say guns are the problem. But oddly these mass shootings don't occur at gun shows"
