Extreme Concealed Carry Course

As the readers are aware, Gun Shy is not one who rushes to promote people or products. Some of the readers are probably wondering why, so I will attempt to explain. I sometimes received emails asking if I would be interested in putting paid advertising on my blog, and I have always declined. I write as a passion, and not as a business. As a person who has trained most of my life in one fighting discipline or another, I have seen just about every bull$hit training program and scam there is. The latest trend is people who claim to be high level instructors of so called tactical training. I have observed some of them, and quite frankly I view many of them as being inexperienced and downright dangerous. As I said in an earlier commentary, if I never hear the term tactical again for the rest of my life, it will be too soon.

Conversely, in my many travels I have also witnessed a select few people who strive to do an excellent job imparting information in a clear, concise, and professional manner while maintaining an extremely low bull$hit factor. These are the type of people I respect, and on rare occasions I will promote.

During one of my little road trips, I got to sit in and observe a CCW class that was held at the Police Hall of Fame in Titusville Florida. I wrote about my experience in an earlier commentary found here. I enjoyed observing this class so much that I actually dropped in on another occasion for a second time, and they graciously allowed me to attend and observe.

I hadn’t been at that range in a while, so I decided to take a little road trip there the other day to sight in some pistols. While there I got to speak with the instructors of the CCW class that I sat in on two occasions and they discussed with me a new program that they have been developing which is dubbed as an advanced concealed carry class. They gave me a brochure and I decided to take it home so that I could read it at a later time. The first thing that I noticed which I found to be refreshing, is that the term tactical could be found no where in the course description.

What I found interesting about their offering, is that the price of admission was only $75.00, which is about average for your typical CCW course, but instead of a few hours of classroom training, their offering was an all day course with a generous amount of range time included. I have seen other courses offered by other schools with the same amount of time at $150 dollars or more. Considering all of the material that they covered in their three hour course, I imagine that this one will be extremely comprehensive considering that it is an all day event. The trainers requested that the attendees bring 200 rounds of ammo so it appears that there will be a whole lot of shootin goin on, and as the readers know, Gun Shy loves the smell of gun powder in the morning, and the sound of brass hitting the floor is like music to my ears. They also requested that you bring the following items listed in their flyer.

Reliable handgun (9 mm or larger)
1 extra magazine
Good Belt
Hat

The instructors request that you wear no open toe shoes
or tank tops, and you must be eligible to own a firearm to participate in the class.

I have observed these trainers on a few occasions in a classroom setting, on numerous occasions on the range instructing new shooters, as well as shooting next to them on many occasions. I can say with confidence, that if I were in the market for CCW instruction, this would most definitely be the class that I would pick, because it will give you the most bang for your buck in my opinion.

The class will be held at the American Police Hall of Fame located on 6359 Horizon Drive in Titusville, Florida on April 11 from 9am to 4pm. For more information about this program, call:
