ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A man who was shot dead by an FBI agent late Tuesday night in Orlando knew one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings, a man identified as friend of the victim said Wednesday. The agent encountered the man while conducting official duties, agent Dave Couvertier said in a statement. A man at the scene on Peregrine Avenue near Kirkman and Vineland roads who identified himself as a friend of the victim said the man knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older brother suspected in the April 15 bombings that killed three and injured more than 260.Khusen Taramov said he and his friend had no connection with the Boston bombings, but the FBI had been questioning them since then. "He used to talk on the phone with him [Tsarnaev]," Taramov said of his friend. "They talked last time a month ago. After the bombing, I couldn't believe it," he said. "The FBI kept asking, 'What's the connection?' But there is no connection... no connection." Taramov said the victim had planned to return to Chechnya but had canceled his tickets.

It appears that the FBI may have cancelled his ticket for him. Not many details out there yet. Let's wait and see. The news did report that the location was near the attractions. (Universal Studios)

Gun Shy said in an earlier post three years ago:

Orlando is a world renown tourist destination as well as a city that has many military contractors. Port Canaveral as well as Kennedy Space Center have the potential to be probable targets for a terrorist attack, which means that the terrorists could fly into OIA to get into the Central Florida area from another country. It was rumored that Mohamed Atta and some of his associates were in the Cocoa Beach area for a time before 911, and I would assume that they may have been scouting out the Space Center and Patrick AFB which are used to launch spy satellites as well as other classified military assets.

UPDATE HERE:

FBI agent shoots, kills Orlando man questioned in Boston bombing probe

quote:

A source told FOX 25 News in Boston that Todashev was being questioned by an FBI agent from Boston about an unsolved triple murder in Waltham, Mass. The source said Todashev became violent during the interview and was shot by the agent.

additional quote from Fox Boston:

ORLANDO, Fla. (MyFoxBoston/MyFoxOrlando) – A man who was shot and killed by an FBI agent late Tuesday night in Orlando had attacked an FBI agent with a knife. The FBI identified the victim as Ibragim Todashev, of 6022 Peregrine Ave. in Orlando. A friend said Todashev was friends with suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. According to an FBI press release, Todashev was being questioned by two Massachusetts State Police troopers and an FBI agent. Sources told FOX 25 that the questioning focused on an unsolved triple murder in Waltham in 2011.The FBI said that Todashev became violent during the interview, attacked an agent with a knife and was shot. The FBI agent was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

As anyone will tell you, taking a knife to a gunfight is definitely not sound tactics. It appears that the agent overcame the odds of the 21 foot rule and survived the attack.
