This entry is to make a case in point. Criminals do not recognize any type of territorial boundaries. They roam through out Orange County, as well as adjacent counties practicing their chosen profession. Criminals go where there is stuff to steal, and what better place than a college campus and parking lots, and the adjacent student housing. Most college students have expensive electronic items such as computers, video games, GPS and other items that are easy to sell. College students typically have a reasonable amount of cash and credit cards, and most have never faced a robbery situation so they will most likely be compliant to the assailant’s wishes. It is highly unlikely that a college student will be armed, making it a low risk for the criminal. When you have a surrounding area that has a high crime rate (Orlando is ranked #11 in Most Dangerous Cities in America survey) there will most definitely be spill over into outlying areas.

It's Easy...Just Find Out Who Made the Call...
...the call to the towing company that is. UCF is a place of "higher learning" filled with obamanoids that are still waiting for hope and change while mommy and daddy pay the bills. It appears that this incident was premeditated, and it probably wasn't the tow truck driver.
53 Cars Towed From UCF During Glenn Beck Event
quote:
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Dozens of people who parked at the University of Central Florida for an event say they were set up after their cars were towed. They said event parking signs directed them to a lot, but more than 50 cars in that lot were towed. People said those signs and their cars were gone when they got back.
A viewer contacted WFTV after his car was towed Saturday, along with 52 others. All of them were in line to recover their cars at an impound lot and all of them attended the Glenn Beck show at UCF.
The people parked in a Kappa Sigma lot. Mike Vedder thinks they were set up. He doesn't know if it was a dislike of the conservative commentator or money.

From the Halls of "higher" Learning
UCF Students Arrested In 4-County Drug Bust
quote:
College students smoke marijuana more frequently than any other age group in the country. A recent study showed 30.2 percent of college students smoked pot in the past year. If that same statistic is true for UCF, than of the school's 53,500 students the drug operation had more than 16,000 potential customers.
That explains why I saw so many Obama bumper stickers on UCF students vehicles, and why so many college kids voted for Obama.

A very sad day indeed
Husband Accepts Murdered UCF Student's Degree
Please watch the video.
quote:
Nicole was murdered in June of 2008 in East Orange County's Blanchard Park before she could finish her studies at UCF.
This is my second soapbox this week and then I will probably shut up for a while (maybe). Here we have a beautiful young woman, who was working hard to better herself and the community, only to have her life cut short by a rapist murderer. This murder happened close to the University of Central Florida campus, which in the past was always thought to be a good area that was fairly safe. I have a news flash for all of my local readers. I have only been back in Orlando a short time after being away for almost ten years, and there aren’t any good areas anymore. In my earlier entries, I reported on the road rage murder at the Steak and Shake, the person shot at student housing, the drive by shooting on Suntree Blvd, and the shooting at the Marriot on University Drive.
There is also suspicion that the person who was shot and died at the hospital, was shot behind Logan’s Steakhouse which is directly across the street from the Marriot. All of these incidents were in close proximity to each other and the UCF campus. These are all events that have occurred very recently. Please read this entry as well.

Even Florida Newspapers Keep Propagating the Lie
UCF death: Male commits suicide at dorm, police find guns, improvised explosive devices - All classes at UCF's main campus starting before 12 p.m. are cancelled.
quote:
In addition to the handgun, police also found an assault weapon and improvised explosive devices in the room, Heston said.
Gun Shy is curious to see just what this assault weapon and improvised explosive device are, and will be updating this commentary with some facts as soon as they are made public.
UPDATE:
The gunman is identified as James Seevakumaran, a business major. The 30-year-old had not enrolled for the spring semester. Police said evidence found in the room showed it was a planned attack. He was found dead with a .22 rifle and .45 handgun nearby.
As of yet the so called 'explosives' have not been defined, but it was reported that they were rendered 'safe'.

There Goes the Neighborhood
Hotel Evacuated Over Possible Meth Lab
quote:
An Orange County extended-stay hotel has been evacuated after a possible meth lab was uncovered, authorities said. Fire officials on Tuesday evacuated the Crestwood Suites, located at 11424 University Blvd., after a suspicious device was found on the hotel's property.
If you Google map this address, you will see that this incident occurred right down the street from the UCF Campus. This is on the far East Side of Orlando, and was once considered a decent area. Recently there have been a number of incidents signaling that the criminal element is moving into the neighborhood. Some incidents that I can recall recently, is the suspected shooting behind Logan’s Roadhouse on 11674 University Blvd, the road rage incident that ended up in a stabbing death at the Steak and Shake which is located on 11700 University Blvd, The Marriot Residence Inn, which had a guest shot in the parking lot as they were checking in which is located on 11671 University Blvd, a drive by shooting on Suntree Blvd just off of University in the same area, and then there was the young man shot near UCF. All of these incidents were discussed in this earlier entry.
As we a sadly reminded of what we once had, the old expression there goes the neighborhood makes the loss all so real.

They Aren't "clowning" Around by UCF
Man Wearing Clown Mask Wanted In Home Invasion - 3 Robbed At Home Near University Of Central Florida
quote:
ORLANDO, Fla. -- An armed man wearing a clown mask and another masked man carrying a shotgun ambushed a man smoking a cigarette before robbing him and two others at an east Orange County home, deputies said.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Eastcove Drive off Alafaya Trail near the University of Central Florida.
The area around UCF is an area that has not been without problems in the past. Click here to read an earlier commentary.

Just Because Your Complex Appears Safe it Doesn't Mean That it Is...
Another lesson in security theater:
Armed Home Invaders Duct Tape, Rob Two UCF Students
quote:
Residents of the Sun Key apartments say they've never heard of violence like the Sunday night home invasion that prompted heavier than usual security Monday. “Is security here pretty tight?” Barrett asked. “Yeah, there's a couple of sheriff's living here, too. There is always security and sheriff's running around, so I'm real surprised because of that too,” Faix said.
This is what is known as security theater, and these off duty law enforcement officers are known as courtesy officers. The complex allows these officers to have reduced rent, knowing that if prospective tenants see the patrol cars there, they will feel that the place is safe. This way, the complex does not have to pay for real security which is far more expensive. Many of the officers who live there are young and new to the force, meaning that they are usually working nights away from the complex when the crimes are occurring. College student are a prime target, because they have nice stuff and are somewhat naive. There is a slim chance that they are armed, unless they are former military going to school on the veterans administration program.

Tis the season for a drive by...
Man Hit In Neighborhood Shootout- Victim's Friend Returned Fire On SUV, Deputies Say
The Video
So now we have shooters carelessly discharging rounds in residential neighborhoods in low crime areas, which should be making people wonder how safe they are in their urban dwelling. With all of the heavy enforcement targeting crime ridden neighborhoods, it appears that it is pushing the violent offenders into out lying lower crime areas. Last week a man was robbed at gunpoint and shot right up the street at the Marriot Hotel. A short time before that there was a shooting at UCF housing.
With all of the shootings on the news every night, it is starting to make ol' Gun Shy think that he may need to shift defensively to the two pistol threat assessment level.
It is time for Americans to JUST SAY NO to Domestic Urban Terrorists.

You Can't Even Play Mini Golf With Your Family in O-Town
While Orlando politicians are rewarding themselves with free box seat tickets to Magic games for a job well done, the town is showing multiple signs of being in rapid decline. Check out this news release about the new mini golf place that just opened up on the East side of town, just down the street from the UCF campus. I drove by there the other day and it was full of families with their kids playing miniature golf.
Drive By Shooting Rocks Mini Golf Course
quote:
A miniature golf course turned into a crime scene during a drive by shooting Sunday morning. Orange County deputies say someone opened fire at Congo River Golf" on Colonial Drive, just east of Alafaya Trail. It's not clear what led to the shooting, but no one was hurt. Eyewitnesses described the suspect vehicle as a silver Chevy Venture with a crack in the front windshield.
For the readers who are not familiar, this business is located in what is viewed as a nice area of town. I discussed how the crime demographics in Orlando has shifted in earlier commentaries such as this one. I also touched on the problem in this commentary.
So the next time you go to take you children to play some mini golf and see the alligators that they have at the establishment that was shot up, make sure you bring some hardware and set up perimeter security for your families safety, or a better idea might be to fire the current elected officials and get someone new in office that is a little more focused on the areas problems instead of their own entertainment.
Side Note:
If you live in Orlando and do not possess a concealed carry permit, it might be a good idea to get one. Of course with all of the efficiency going on in this State, it will now take you up to six months to get one. (it used to take ninety days maximum).

Gun Shy Salutes This Brave Young Woman
Woman Chases Men Out Of Home With Machete
quote:
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A young woman arrived at her home Tuesday only to find a strange SUV parked in her driveway with a crying baby inside and two men burglarizing her house. The UCF student said she walked through the garage to get into her home in Orange County, grabbing a machete on the way in. "I just got really angry and my adrenaline started pumping," said burglary victim Heather Bailey…
…Bailey said the fact that they left a child in the car to commit a burglary, set her off. "The windows are down and the first thing I see is a 2-year-old girl crying in Spanish that she wants someone, she was hot cause it was really hot today," said Bailey. Heather Bailey caught them red-handed rummaging through her family home and that's when the foot-long machete became her deterrent to crime…
… Heather Bailey says she whacked the vehicle with the machete as they sped out of the driveway.
Maybe they were shocked to see an anglo wielding a machete. Now for the Gun Shy evaluation/lecture. I am glad that it turned out well for this young lady, but if the assailants had guns, it may have been a much different outcome. Realistically, she could have been beaten, raped, and killed. I have empathy for her indignation, but when you decide to go in on a situation such as this, a better plan should be the order of the day.

There Goes the Neighborhood...AGAIN
Police: UCF Student Raped In Campus Garage - Suspect Is On The Loose
I have written about this area of Orlando around the university many times, and as a matter of fact, I used to live in this neighborhood for a while until I made my escape.
