The Failed Logic of American State Governments

…or..How We Got in This Mess in the First Place

LA seeks donations to pay for Jackson memorial tab

quotes:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — As the final cost of Michael Jackson's memorial service was being calculated, city officials cast about Wednesday to find ways to have others help pick up the multimillion-dollar bill….

…City attorney Carmen Trutanich said his office was investigating how the financially troubled city can legally press third parties to pick up at least some of the tab, which could total as much as $4 million for police overtime and other services.

…AEG Live, the owner-operator of Staples Center, has not committed any money to the Jackson memorial, which it organized and promoted. Company spokesman Michael Roth did not return messages on Wednesday.

…The Jackson memorial was the second recent event that resulted in extraordinary costs at a time when the city is a half-billion dollars in debt and facing employee layoffs.

…Last month's victory parade for the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers cost an estimated $2 million.

Lets examine this now. California is bankrupt. People are losing their homes and jobs left and right, and vendors invoices are being paid in the form of I.O.U.s, and now the city of Los Angeles is worrying about how to pay for a memorial for a dead pop star with a questionable background.

Michelle Malkin said this in a commentary on her blog:

Jacko fever spread to the Beltway, where the House of Representatives held a moment of silence for the entertainer. President Obama sent a highly publicized letter of condolence to the Jackson family.

Ain’t that America. Let's have another beer and watch the game, shall we?

As Gun Shy has recently stated, entertainment (not religion) is the opiate of the masses.

Good lord! As a NorCal guy I could say that typically "LA" for you, but it's really endemic.
They should pay 'em in IOU's though, that might teach a lesson.
